5 Steps to Achieve the State of Mental Well Being

A good well being is not just about “being well”. It is more than that – and there are different categories: physical, spiritual and mental well-being.

In this article, we will discuss how to achieve mental well-being. So what is a mental well being anyway?

The World Health Organization defines mental well-being as “the state where an individual realizes his or her own potential and being able to cope with the normal stresses of life working productively and fruitfully; and being able to contribute to his or her community.”

Wouldn’t it be great if everyone achieves a state of mental well-being? How do we achieve that?

Here are 5 Steps to Achieve the State of Mental Well Being:

1. Think and talk about positive things.

Nobody else can help you think and talk positively than yourself. Make it a decision to fill your thoughts and speak only what can help you and not discourage you. When you think and talk about things that are positive, you can only attract things and circumstances that would bring positive results. Train your mind to think positively and affirm your thoughts by speaking positively. You will then notice you that you are able to achieve a state of mental well-being.

2. Find humor in disappointments and challenges.

Disappointments and challenges are inevitable and they have the power to cripple you if you let them. However, you also have the choice on how to see that challenge. You may consider it as a big obstacle or you can find the humor in them and consider them as lessons in life you need to learn.

3. Never stop learning.

It is important to keep our minds active to achieve a state of mental well-being, and one of the ways to achieve that is by continuously learning. Learn from others, learn a new skill, learn by reading or by attending classes or seminars. There are many ways to learn something new, find one that interests you and start learning that today.

4. Connect and share.

It is important to connect and share to achieve a state of mental well-being. There is a sense of happiness and satisfaction we get from connecting and sharing with others that help create a healthy mental well-being. We learn when we connect, and we cultivate positive feelings when we share.

5. Live in the present and look at the future positively.

Everyone has the past that they do not want to go back to. Also, some people look at the future with fear because of their “un-ideal” past experiences. Try to learn to live in the present and enjoy every moment as it comes. Try to help your mind practice minding only the present and try to look at the future with hope and positivity.
