Entrepreneurship is About Purpose

There is some esteem that goes with the word entrepreneurship, and there are many successful entrepreneurs that have made a name in their industry. It’s not just being able to generate money and create an enterprise that motivates entrepreneurs to be the best in their business, entrepreneurship is much more than just building a brand and creating a name – it’s all about purpose.

We looked into some of the most successful and effective entrepreneurs and we learned that being an entrepreneur has its purpose.

So, what is the purpose of entrepreneurship? Here’s what we found out from the greatest entrepreneurs:

1. Make lives better

It may seem like it’s the entrepreneur’s lives’ who got better as many of them are living the lives we usually just dream of – financial security, an enterprise of their own, for some, even fame. However, many entrepreneurs did not set out to create a better life for themselves. They actually wanted to make other people’s lives better.

From my very first day as an entrepreneur, I’ve felt the only mission worth pursuing in business is to make people’s lives better. – Richard Branson

2. Identify problems

The other purpose of entrepreneurship is to identify problems. While some people don’t want to see problems, entrepreneurs look to identify problems.  A real entrepreneur is not afraid of seeing the problems. By identifying problems, they are able to come up with solutions.

What does an entrepreneur do? The first thing is they’ve given themselves permission to see a problem. Most people don’t want to see problems… Once you see a problem and you keep looking at it, you’ll find an answer. – Bill Drayton

3. Develop solutions

While entrepreneurs have an eye to identifying problems, they also aim to develop solutions. Les Wexner, for one, is someone who knows how to develop solutions. The man behind the biggest brands in Lingerie has been developing solutions since he first opened his own store in 1963.  The most successful entrepreneurs never cease in developing solutions.

As an entrepreneur, you work out solutions. – Les Wexner

4. Innovate

When you ask most entrepreneurs what their purpose is, they would probably say that their purpose is to innovate. Innovation is probably the lifeblood of entrepreneurship. Many successful entrepreneurs have made innovations that changed the world, and yet, they still continue to create something new.

Growing up in a family of doctors, I wanted to be a brain surgeon for a while. But ultimately, I get most excited about creating things, which is why I decided to become an entrepreneur. – Alexa Von Tobel

5. Make a difference

Every entrepreneur’s purpose is to make a significant change, a difference to the world around him or her. Their purpose is to move the needle where nothing has worked.

You must, as an entrepreneur – if that’s your position – be doing things that really move the needle. – Nick Woodman

Every entrepreneur sets out with a purpose, and it is by fulfilling that purpose that makes them successful in their trade. When one has clarity of purpose, a strong personal conviction follows, which eventually leads to success.
